OIOUBL and NemHandel
OIOUBL stands for Offentlig (public) Information Online Universal Business Language, and is used as a standard in e-commerce transactions together with NemHandel. NemHandel began as a document standard in e-commerce within the public sector, but has gradually become more widespread in the private sector as well. This is, not least, due to the fact that the standard can be applied to many different types of business document and it is simple and cheap to implement. If you do business with public authorities and private companies it is an advantage to use OIOUBL with both parties.
More useful than OIOXML
OIOUBL has more uses than its predecessor, OIOXML. As well as being used for invoices and credit notes, it can also be utilized for many other types of business document, such as:
- Orders
- Order confirmation
- Catalogues
- Reminders

OIOUBL versus EDI
OIOUBL is an XML-based Danish standard based on the European standard, UBL 2.0 (Universal Business Language). If you do business with public authorities in Denmark, OIOUBL is a necessity with regard to e-commerce, as NemHandel is based on this standard. However, this standard is also worth considering for e-commerce with private companies, which usually use EDI. To briefly summarize the relevant issues with regard to the use of EDI and OIOUBL, we can say that:
EDI
An EDI document contains many optional fields, and therefore a typical EDI project between two companies can usually be adjusted to accommodate the communication needs of both parties. On the other hand, the consequence of this flexibility is that all integrations necessitate the inclusion of an accompanying project. You cannot, for instance, expect that an EDI invoice integration created for one business partner can be used without complications for another business partner. Read more about EDI here.
OIOUBL
Just like EDI, OIOUBL includes several standard templates which define the fields that different business documents may contain. However, the number of fields is far more limited than in EDI, and some companies have to adjust their documents to these fields. This means that as long as you and your business partner use OIOUBL, you know that your systems can communicate with each other. Since OIOUBL is a Danish standard it can, however, only be used for e-commerce in Denmark.
Why use AGETOR for the business integration with OIOUBL?
